Designated Learning Institution (DLI) Letter
You must have an acceptance letter from a DLI in Canada.
Proof of Financial Support
Provide proof that you can support yourself and any family members during your stay. As of September 1, 2026, the minimum for a single student (outside Quebec) is CAD $23,448 per year for living expenses, PLUS tuition and return transportation. Must provide 6 months of bank statements showing traceable source of funds.
Biometrics
Most applicants must give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a visa application centre.
Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL)
Most study permit applicants need a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from the province or territory where they plan to study.
Police Certificates
You may need to provide police certificates from any country where you have lived for six or more months since age 18.
Medical Exam (if required)
Some applicants may need to undergo a medical examination by a designated panel physician.
