Admission to a Recognised Sponsor
You must be admitted to an IND-recognised educational institution. The institution acts as your recognised sponsor (erkend referent) and submits the entry visa (MVV) and residence permit (VVR) application to the IND on your behalf — you do not apply directly.
Proof of Financial Means
You must demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover living costs (excluding tuition). For 2026 the required amount is €13,569.24 for a 12-month period, shown via bank statements, a scholarship, or a sponsor guarantee.
Valid Passport
You must hold a passport valid for at least six months beyond the start of your study programme.
Health Insurance
You must hold adequate health insurance for the duration of your stay — either private international student insurance or, if you work above a set number of hours, basic Dutch health insurance.
Tuberculosis (TB) Test (if applicable)
Depending on your country of origin you may need a tuberculosis test. Nationals of countries on the IND exemption list are exempt; others sign a declaration of intent and complete the test after arrival, usually via the Municipal Health Service (GGD).
Antecedents Certificate
You must sign an antecedents certificate confirming you have no relevant criminal record, and provide proof of tuition payment.
